I had no clue what Philippines Cebu was going to be like before I made it out there. Whispers from the gods & old memories told me that Philippines Cebu was worth a visit. I came here to look for an Asian wife & to become more knowledgeable to the happenings of my world. And of course to enjoy new delicious foods. But what was waiting in store for me here was not exactly what I was expecting.
Waking up to the world around me is a reality shattering experience. I stayed in several different areas within Cebu during my visit. Places such as Lahug & Lapu-Lapu. And it’s plain to see in most places of Cebu that the infrastructure here is poor. A lot of the architecture I saw was old & run down. And there’s trash everywhere. I’ll pray for Cebu.
Even though there’s seemingly a lot of chaos around, that doesn’t seem to keep the local people down too badly. The people here are mostly fair from my experience & in my opinion that’s a good thing. People go about their business seemingly & didn’t bother me too much. However one thing that I had to get used to seeing everyday was their armed security. I heard from some locals that crime was a thing there. They have armed security everywhere in Cebu. And they’re carrying some real big guns out there. Seeing that kind of military presence daily took some time getting used to.
This isn’t a hit piece on Philippines Cebu. It’s my realistic take on what I experienced & witnessed during my stay there. People there are mostly fair, the food is affordable, delicious & the rates for most things are within my budget budget. But I don’t believe Cebu is ready for a mass tourism wave. I think they need to spend a lot of time on self-care first. For me Cebu was an eye opening experience & I’m glad to have went. But now I’m onto better & better things. Until next time, peace.
